It's possible that the user you are doing this as only has access to one database. Otherwise, I wouldn't know. mysqldump uses the user that you are logged in as if you don't supply one on the command line prompt. It also uses localhost unless you specify a host. So I would check the permissions on the user you were logged in as from localhost and see what gives you.
