backup large DB running on windows server 2008

I am looking for the best solution to backing up a couple large mySQL DB's. mySQL is currently 5.0 and it's running on windows server 2008. I was really trying to use percona xtrabackup but I understand (from percona) that running mySQL on windows eliminates them for the most part. We are running the community edition so the Oracle paid solution I don't want either. Was wondering if anyone knows of a percona type equivalent? Based on the size I think sqldump is out and it will have to be a binary file copy type solution. I plan to run it off the slave not master. Is there a script/tool option maybe that I could use and modify to take reliable full backups to be used for DR? thanks in advance.
