From what I have tested so far, it looks like if the table hasn't changed then its correlating file doesn't get copied over. I am using the --allow-old option, so the dbname_old directory is being deleted after successful copies and that is probably changing my backup dir timestamps. As I look inside the hot backup directory over time, I see only some of the table file timestamps being changed, which leads me to believe that the changed tables are being copied over. As soon as I get a test box, I will validate this test.
