<opinion>
* InnoDB is the preferred ENGINE for virtually all applications.
* Both InnoDB and MyISAM will continue to coexist for a long time.
* Oracle will invest only in InnoDB, but MyISAM is not 'broken'.
* Engines will continue to interoperate (e.g., JOIN).
* Even if Oracle does something drastic, MariaDB will continue as above.
</opinion>

These opinions come from years of pondering the questions and observing what is happening.
