I was hoping you'd spot a really bad setting in my.cnf or a very telling stat in the engine status....
This instance will need to be alive for about two weeks for the import to finish. If I bump it to double the memory, it will cost twice as much, now will the import run in less than half the time? My own guess would be no.
At this point the import involves four compressed tables so I'm stuck with that.
