when I delete my my.cnf I get:

050801 17:30:59 Error at /etc/init.d/mysql\nUnknown suffix 'l' used for variable 'host' (value 'localhost')
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: Error while setting value 'localhost' to 'host'

so the '/' seems not to have been a "suffix" after all bun the first character in /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock ???
