SSL don't work II

I'm hoping this will be easier than the other thread I've just read through!

I'm trying to set up an SSL connection to a mysql DB running on an amazon AWS server. I've installed their versions of php / mysql and httpd - basically their standard LAMP server.

So... I've got the certificates created as per https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/creating-ssl-certs.html

They validate...

I add them to my.cnf... I restart mysqld and hey ho... SSL is still disabled...

Now I'm pretty sure I've got the .pems created right. I did it 4 or 5 times in the end and the last time I was VERY careful ;)

Anyone got any ideas how best to troubleshoot this?

Cheers

John
