Secure Connection via ODBC

{ Please excuse my cross-posting...I accidentally posted this in the Newbie forum. I didn't realize this until I went back to check for responses.}

I have an existing VB6 application that uses MySQL (Windows) as its database. The application is used to remotely (over the internet) connect to the DB to update information. Currently, it employees the 3.51.x ODBC driver.

Right now, everything is being passed as plain text.

Question: What is the easiest method to secure my connection between the client and the sever?

Regards,

Joey
