Port 3306 Open to Internet

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can give me any advice, I've just moved to a new dedicated hosting company and as part of their default setup they seem to have all ports open on the server to the internet, which means obviously that mySQL is open on port 3306 as well. I'm not to happy about this, as even if I have strong security i.e locking down all the accounts etc it doesn't seem very secure to me. This is on a Windows 2003 server btw.
Am I being paranoid or is this a real threat?
