Well, make sure you have enough room in the data directory ... use df -h Unix command to confirm .. it might be stuck somewhere waiting for more disk space to be available.

fyi: you should not be ALTERing such big tables like that there are better options to do that e.g. ALTER by disabling keys first, dump and reload (using LOAD DATA INFILE), increasing some buffers before ALTERing (can use this with option1).
