server service or the configuration file could not be found

Hi,
I have installed mysql from archives, created the required registry keys (version, location) configured and started the service. Under Control Panel -> Administration --> Service I can see one line with MySQL

"C:\Programmi\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqld-nt" --defaults-file="C:\Programmi\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\my.ini" MySQL

In the file my.ini ports entry aren't commented but when I run MySQL admin tools I got this error:

Either the server service or the configuration file could not be found. Startup variables and service section are therefore disabled.

Any suggestion ?
