I was having the very same problem on my desktop computer with mysql 5.0.51a and 5.0.67. I tried changing my f-secure client security's settings, uninstalling, changing temp directory and different mysql server versions. None of them helped.

So that fixed the problem for me? Turning off the I-FAAST feature in diskeeper.

Diskeeper pro premiere 10.0.608.0 with I-FAAST on will make at least mysql 5.0.51a and 5.0.67 to give that "could not fetch schema table status" error periodically. I just tested having it on and off and it's quite obvious that it is the cause.
