can't start mysql saying mysql can't create /tmp/mysql.sock
I've a mysql version Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.60sp1, for redhat-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 5.1.
I use the default data directory /var/lib/mysql.
When I don't create /etc/my.cnf file, I can start and stop mysql.
When I copied the big-mysql.cnf to /etc/my.cnf and added socket = /tmp/mysql.sock in my.cnf, I can't start mysql any more.
The error says mysql can't create /tmp/mysql.sock. Do you have another mysql instance running?
The permission of /tmp/ is correct because I (mysql user) can create a file in /tmp/.
And I don't have another mysql instance running.
Does anyone know what is going on?
Never mind, someone else created a sock file under /var/lib/mysql.
Thanks.
Sheila
