When you start MySQL Administrator, the dialog you get should have 4 buttons along the bottom.
Details >>, OK, Clear, Cancel.

If you hold the Control Key, Cancel changes to Skip.

Leave the Stored Connection blank for now,
Enter the name of the host where the MySQL server is running (localhost)
The default port is 3306. change yours if you set it to something else when you installed MySQL.
Enter the MySQL user name (root)
Enter the MySQL password for the user (root's password)

Click on OK, you should connect to the running service.

What happens when you try this?

Barry.
