MySQL Admin has locked me out of MySQL

I have observed some problems posted elsewhere about updating users elswhere in this forum,

http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?34,30085,30085#msg-30085

When tinkering around looking for some kind of workaround, I deleted all the users in the user admin panel and now I can't get back into MySQL. The root user will not work. I tried reinstalling the database using the Add Program manager in my Fedora Core 4 installation and that does not work. The following also does not work:

How should I fix this?
