Problems connecting to mysql server from mysqladministrator

Hi,
I'm having problems using the mysqladministrator to access the mysql database. I have the service up and running, and I can connect to it using the mysql command prompt. I also can connect to the database using the NETBEANS product. I have 1 user created in the mysql database with user name "root" and can connect from any ip address. I presume since I have the server installed on my computer that the server host ip address is "127.0.0.1", but unfortunately I can't connect. Any ideas what the issue may be or any information about the procedure that mysqladministrator takes to connect to the mysql server would be very helpful. Strange one.
Thanking u.
