deleted some bin files in var/log.. now logging is broken

I've been having some issues getting logging to work. I recently deleted some bin files in my var/log directory. Following that I could not restart mysql... it gave the error below in the syslog.

I was forced to disable logging to restart mysql... any idea how I can get mysql to forget about these bin files so that I can turn back on logging?

Thanks,
Wayne
