Orphaned records in information_schema

I have orphaned table and db records in INNODB_DATAFILES, INNODB_TABLES, INNODB_TABLE_SPACES, etc. It's creating a lot of noise in mysql logging and wondering if it safe to simply delete these records. Think it probably happened after switching to lowercase only, then dropping the tables.
