I have the same problem. I've tried also with empty tables. One more related observation:
It seems code B will work (sometimes) if I fill in the fields in the order they appear in the schema. And it only affects varchar() fields - the default values seem to populate the non-text fields properly.
ALSO: if I just tb.addnew followed by a tb.update, it returns an error. Doesn't the default value intuitively take care of this?
Any help appreciated.
