Unknown MySQL server host ERROR

I have installed the MyODBC driver 3.51 and it seems to be installed and configured ok. When I try to 'Test' the connection through the ODBC data source administrator I get this message:

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Unknown MySQL server host 'host.server.com' (11004)

(I changed the server name)

I can not ping the server, nor will a tracert work. It looks like DNS is not resolving my server's name. Is this what is happening and my ISP is wrong when they tell me they can access it remotely?

It looks to me like the driver needs to have a server name which will resolve via DNS for it to work.
