Thanks for showing interest in Mysql Connector/ODBC.
MyODBC 3.51 is Ansi driver and MyODBC 5.1 is Unicode driver and newest Connector/ODBC 5.2, which includes the functionality of the Unicode driver and the ANSI driver, which formerly were split between Connector/ODBC 5.1 and Connector/ODBC 3.51.
So preferably use 5.2(a) if you want ANSI functionality and 5.2(w) for Unicode functionality.
As of error you are getting while connecting using 3.51, can you please let me know whether you were able to connect using this DSN using some application and please provide more details (OS, with minor version, 32 bit or 64 bit) about this error so I could understand it properly and trace if possible.
