The site won't let me edit my last posting. The 'mysql-proxy' is definitely way too complicated.
Internet Connection Sharing" I mean loosely. I want something that runs on a server and just relays data and changes the IP address like ICS. I think I explained it in the OP. To the client it emulates a real MySQL server, without being one. To the real MySQL server it emulates a client, without being one. The Client connects to this 'front' as though was a real MySQL server. The MySQL server accepts connections from it a though was a client. This [whatever it is called relay/proxy/gateway] I don't know what it would be called.
