One thing you should be aware of is the changing nature of features in pre-release versions of MySQL. My committment for the connector is that it will be compatible with the latest available pre-release of the server and, of course, be compatible with all released GA versions. So many things change while features are being finalized that for me to be compatible with all pre-release versions would require me to fill the connector with all sorts of if/else clauses to handle special cases.

I do not know if this is the cause of your problem, but you are using 5.0.0 and the latest pre-release, and the one that I test against, is 5.0.1
