There is no any issue with Windows 8. Please check the version that you are using with the Visual Studio environment. Connector/Net newer versions don't have the Visual Studio integration included. You can use 6.6.x version or previous for integration with Visual Studio 2010. If you want to use Visual Studio 2013 with the MySQL graphical interface you would need the MySQL for Visual Studio product, which can be downloaded here:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/visualstudio/
And also make sure the version you use from Visual Studio is either Community, Professional or Ultimate. Express versions are not supported.
Finally you will also need the driver that you already have in order to develop applications.
