I have a persistent error and cannot connect to MySQL for a WordPress setup.

2017-01-30T01:51:10, 4, Note, Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

I have gone through several installs, and "clean" installs of mysql-installer-web-community-5.7.17.0.msi

I have tried command line access, etc.

I get this WordPress "setup/config" screen error:

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the Dev Data database.

This seems to be a permissions issue.

The is a dev machine installation on a Windows 7 Pro workstation.

Can anyone help me with this problem.
