checkboxes in datagrid with MySQL DB

Ok I've created a simple database just for playing around before converting data from an access DB to MySQL. my problem it if i pull data from the access database into a datagrid and the field is a true/false data type i get a checkbox....however the sample DB in MySQL i've tried everything i can think of in order to get a field to be displayed as a checkbox in the datagrid....is there some data type i need to have the value set as or what...if anyone can please help me i'd greatly appreciated it...
