Yep. You're correct - the ide was copying 3.0.14-production. Fixed that, here's the same data, but with

from the shell.

and nothing but mysql-connector-java-3.1.6-bin.jar in my app server main lib dir....

damn. now I have some kind of issue with the connector/j parsing TIMESTAMP columns.... not getting to the EOFException, I suspect.

Exception Details: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException
javax.faces.FacesException: java.sql.SQLException: Cannot convert value '2004-12-14 00:00:00.<there is a wierd character here that the browser draws as a dotted square' from column 6 to TIMESTAMP.
(I kid you not.)

JUST to be CLEAR- the connector/j is "pure java", requires no client side linux libraries, talks directly to the server. right?
