MySQL 4.1.7 throws SQLException with Warnings

I set max_error_count to 0 in my.ini, but it doesn't stop it. My JAVA applications are falling into the catch sqlexception with data truncation warning errors and I have to check the error code to know whether or not to soldier on. Lots of code changes for applications written for version 4.1.0 which hadn't implemented fully the warnings framework. Any suggestions?
