I've seen such messages quite a lot (I mean EOF), but not recent. It happens unpredictable.

4 years ago, WebLogic 7. Finally I found that it was a bug in SUN Java, fixed in 1.3.1_06

Try to tune Tomcat (use native threads); upgrade/reinstall Java.
