what is java connection and what is mysql connection?

i create a simple dbcp java test project and then i get a connection from basicdatasource,Submit SHOW FULL PROCESSLIST; in sqlyog I can see the connection just created. then i closed the java connection but mysql connection still alive ,this is how it goes?
