Yep; that's exactly the problem. There were a couple other issues - there was nothing allowing specification of a new PID File, ordering of calls in which "adjustParameterMap" was overriding options explicitly-specified by the JMX configurations, etc. Nothing horribly crazy in the architecture keeping us from getting this feature in there, just moving some code around and enhancing as needed.
Did you get the email I'd sent you? It contained source for a working version of MysqldResource.java and a sample JBoss *-service.xml MBean configuration file.
Let me know if I can be of any help; offload whatever you'd like. I can appreciate your busy schedule with other things, and this is my itch, I'll scratch it. :)
