Ludovic,

Have you called Connection.close() in your application? Maybe in a finally{} block that you're un-aware of? If not, did the database close the connection on you (wait_timeout expired), or maybe the server crashed?

The JDBC spec doesn't allow you to use statements on closed connections (which of course won't work anyway).
