I am also having this problem. I am building a Groovy/Grails application on Vista and Windows Server 2003 using Java 1.6.

I would expect the autoReconnect=true param to solve this problem, but it doesn't. Perhaps there is a bug in the JDBC driver for MySQL.

Anyone from Sun out there? Is this a known problem?
