20 second delay connecting to mysql server through firewall

Hi,

I have a ~20 second delay connecting from a mysql client and jdbc requests on a Centos 5.1 server through a firewall to the Mysql server running on another Centos 5.1 server on a different subnet. I have set a range for the ports 3306:3307 inbound on the firewall but it appears to be trying other ports before reverting back to the default port.

Anyone know what other ports it may be attempting to try initially or what else may be causing the delay?

Thanks,

Paul.
