Problem remains, wd be *grateful* for further insights! Have upgraded the mysql-connector, having checked for earlier versions and locations, (using the alpha because this work is academic, not production); tested the MySQL tables, all seems fine. Classpath seems to be set correctly. [Following the documentation included in the Connector/J docs]. But still, receive this error when a servlet checks the MySQL table.
Communications link failure due to underlying exception: ** BEGIN NESTED EXCEPTION ** STACKTRACE: at ...[and so on.]

Probably missing a simple and obvious thing, but ... am stuck. Thanks for any advice.
