Thanks Mark. Both problems have been resolved:
1. the instance-owned connection approach works smoothly.
2. The JDBC 2.0.14 has resumed functioning as expected, whilst why the upgrade to the newer one, v3.1.10 failed is still a mystery.
Really appreciate your help!!
