Sounds like it points to an issue with the combination of GCC 4.0.3 and glibc2.3.5. I personally develop on FC3 which uses GCC-4.0.1 (gcc (GCC) 4.0.1 20050727 (Red Hat 4.0.1-5)) and glibc-2.3.90 (glibc-2.3.90-11 according to RPM). Have you filed this as a bug with the Arch linux team? Do they send bugs to upstream maintainers?
