Communication failure during handshake. Is there a server running on localhost:3306?

hi everyone.

can any body help me to solve this sqlexception:
Communication failure during handshake. Is there a server running on localhost:3306?

i can connect to mysql server by a simple php program (mysqli_connect("localhost",..,..)), but when i do the same in java, i catch these exception.

Please Help Me !
