Can you share a simple test case with some data showing this issue?

In the meantime I would suggest upgrading the connector version, preferably to Connector/J 8.0, and try with it.

BTW, what server version are you using?

I see where this thread is leading to but the length in the VARCHAR definition means character length, not Byte length, so the characters you're trying to insert, while below the 100 chars limit, shouldn't cause any data truncation errors. OTOH, some Unicode characters actually consume two characters length - the ones in the supplementary planes. So, what exactly does your data look like?
