I think my problem boils down to the fact that MySQL runs with a different my.ini on my development server - and I don't find another my.ini on my drive, so we have a little mystery here (apparently I'm not the only one, there are others describing a similar thing). I'll have to possibly deinstall everything and reinstall. Maybe there are residues of older MySQL versions lurking somewhere. Can I keep the ibdata1 file while I do that?

I found today that the almost identical MySQL installation on our test server doesn't have this problem - when I change my.ini here, and restart the service, the changes are applied. I'm developing on the test server for the time being, and after experimenting with several variations of "LINES TERMINATED BY", the data are apparently inserted as they should.
