Use 'reconnectAtTxEnd=true' to get the behavior you ask for in BUG#6966 (i.e. reconnect at commit/rollback).

We will look into this bug.

However, I'll let you know that most likely we will move to a 'stateless' recovery model with Connector/J 3.2 and deprecate the 'autoReconnect' feature, as the JDBC-4.0 specification will require it, as clustered/fault tolerant environments are planned to be in the new specification. By 'stateless', we mean that you will need to discard the current connection, and retrieve a new one from the pool or driver manager.
