It sends them one at a time. The server doesn't have support for 'batched' statements yet. They are planned (most likely for 5.1).
There _are_ multi-statements, but 1). They're not batches and 2.) It would require a pretty sophisticated parser in the JDBC driver to use them correctly.
When the server supports batched parameters, the driver will too.
