I realize this topic is a bit stale but I wanted to share some of my own thoughts on this based on some experiences with statement pooling on the server.

Every off-the-shelf statement pooling i've ever seen just set a strick limit on the number of statements without giving a reasonable (IMO) expulsion heuristic. They would just say "set N and we will do an LRU policy". I ended up writing my own pool (should have donated it somewhere) that kept track of how many times a query was used and would expell the least frequently used ones.

One could imagine using various kinds of scoring heuristics based on the potential complexity of the execution path too.

Just throwing this out as food for thought.
