In this case, we are really no different then most other vendors. If you want to ship MS SQL or Oracle with an application, you need a license to do so.

Perhaps see my second note in this thread? I did not mean Free Software as in "free of charge". Instead, I meant that the software was placed under a Free Software license like the GPL or the BSD license.

Sure. Still, for some people reading this thread, licensing software under a Free Software/Open Source license might be a very viable solution.

There is an embeddable version of MySQL called libmysqld that can be embedded in an application as a shared library. I admit that I have never used it and would need to ask one of the other MySQLers for more information about things like having it as a DLL.

If you are embedding the database, then you would need to acquire the license yourself and pass the cost on to the customer.
