Hi Sebastian,

you seem to be a german speaking fellow, check http://blog.ulf-wendel.de/?p=67 for some general SAPDB 7.3 upgrade hints.

In general I recommend that you set up a new 7.3 database on the original system with a different data and log volume configuration but enough space to recover the backup. Then you do the upgrade (with SDBUPD) step by step 7.3->7.4->7.5->7.6. Note that not all combinations of SAPDB/MaxDB and OS will work together smoothless.

At some points, you have to switch from one OS to the other, but that is not much of a problem as long as you have two computers to work with: one for the old version, one for the new version of the database software together with a compatible OS on each. Check the MaxDB documentation for "Database Copy" (Glossary->Database Copy) hints how to take a backup on one computer and recover it on a different one.

Ulf
