Not wrong. But it's unnecessary, not forbidden. You can see there are users confused about it
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14430424/commit-after-select so it's no surprise some people try to do that. And what's more, two other popular python mysql drivers: PyMySQL and mysqlclient allow to do that. So there might be some framework doing so.
