When will dbd::mysql support stored procedures?

I have seen that a new DBI 1.5.1 and DBD::mysql 3.0006 has been released in mid june but still no words about official support for stored procedures.
Someone who knows what is happening with this since mysql 5.x performance seems to decrease for every GA release due to the implementation of stored procedures (it seems soon to be mandatory to switch over to use stored procedures if you need performance in mysql but so far the lack of official support of stored procedures through dbi/dbd stops at least me for switching to 5.x from 4.1) ?
I know there exist some unofficial patch but how valid is that now with the new 3.0006 release of DBD::mysql ?
