I have found it to be very difficult to learn a new programming language or API, while I am simultaneously trying to concentrate on the logic for a real project. I generally do one or the other poorly -- or both! I just can't divide my concentration between learning a new language, and problem-solving my way through the project.

It's much better to work one's way through a tutorial for the language, and once one is comfortable with that language, then tackle the project.

It might seem like you don't have time to do a tutorial, but you'll actually end up saving time, because you won't make bad logic mistakes and have to backtrack, ripping out code that you have written wrong.
