Insertion takes very very long time

I had written a perl program to insert data in MySQL 5.0 of the order of some 7lakhs of records.
When I ran the program,it took the around 8hrs to insert 751, 000 of records.
Later I ran the same program in some other system (system is same as mine and here also MySQL 5.0 was used). It hardly took 2minutes to insert it.
Can somebody tell me what is the problem? what is the steps to solve it.?
