I am having exactly the same issue trying to package DBD::mysql for Fink (Mac OS X package manager).

Are there any news about this issue? Does this have something to do with the mysql version used and/or the DBD::mysql version?

For me it fails with: DBD::mysql 4.001 and mysql 5.0.27
But it passed with DBD::mysql 4.001 and mysql 5.0.16

And it did work with DBD::mysql 3.0008
